It is perhaps Kubrick’s greatest film. It is also deeply flawed. The movie overflows with moments of comic genius, all motivated by Kubrick’s devastating critiques of war and warmongers. Peter Sellers does a brilliant job in his three roles (Group Captain Lionel Mandrake, President Mirkin Muffley, and Dr. Strangelove himself). And the fourth role intended for Sellers (Major “King” Kong) is filled admirably by Slim Pickens after Sellers broke his leg late in filming. The script is a showpiece of sight gags, caricatures, and dialogue. Especially notable are the monologues by the President while talking to a drunk Soviet Premier on the phone (we can’t hear the answers). “He went and did a silly thing.” Or: “I’m just as capable of being sorry as you are.” Quoted out of context like this, they seem innocuous, almost boring. But Sellers has impeccable comic timing, and the whole speech has a cumulative effect. We feel like we’re not supposed to be laughing at imminent nuclear war, but we can’t help it.

It is so imaginative, it is funny, it is scary and really unique. It finds Coraline moving to a new home, and feeling neglected by her parents. It gets more interesting when she finds a door leading to a happier mirror on her own world, with another mother who is very loving. The movie is billed as a story for children (or at least based off a childrens book by Neil Gaiman) but is entertaining for viewers of all ages. The idea of someone looking for a better life is one that is universal and therefore the story can truly resonate with any of us.

Highly recommended viewing.

Madam Mim is a highly skilled witch. She was originally created by T. H.White for his novel The Sword in the Stone from 1938. White rewrote the story in the 1958 version The Once and Future King where Madam Mim and her Wizard’s Duel with Merlin was left out, but when Disney adapted the story in 1963, Madam Mim was used in the story although in a somewhat altered form (voice by Martha Wentworth)

Mim is presented as boisterous, mischievous, and rather conceited, a sorceress much impressed with her own power who delights in causing trouble. She is also a somewhat morbid character with a distaste for sunshine and all things wholesome. She has got green eyes and grey hair with a purple tinge. 

“I hate sunshine. I hate horrible, wholesome sunshine! “

The main ability she can display is her shape-shifting skill with which she can take the form of anything she wants.
She can magically make herself uglier, and then beautiful. She can turn into: an alligator, a fox, a hen, a elephant, a tiger, a rattlesnake, and a rhinoceros, all of which were colored pink and an ugly, purple, fire-breathing dragon.

Why do I like her?
Actually, I think she is not much of an antagonist. She is cute but in a creepy way :) Some villains are supposed to be funny and silly and she is one of them. An old grumpy lady who is mean and crazy :)  Simply adorable! She can be whatever she wants to be!!! She can be pretty but her choice is to stay fat and ugly! And that is for respect. Self-serving, bad-tempered, quite unscrupulous, and, above all, mad, mad… Madam Mim!
