Human Hair into Delicate Leaves

Jenine Shereos is a sculptor and installation artist specializing in fiber and textile processes. These leaves are created by wrapping, stitching, and knotting together strands of human hair. The installation represents the organic patterns in nature that we see around us, and the circle of life and decay.

‘I think it is a piece with universal appeal and I’ll be happy if it makes people smile at Christmas time.’

This installation by Bruce Munro is a beautiful maze of more than 5,000 bulbs planted in the Holburne museum’s grounds with the spheres supported by acrylic stems. The spheres are threaded with fiber optic cables and they are lit by a color projector.

Potatoes into Portraits

“Human beings and potatoes have much in common. We both come in different shapes, sizes and shades of color. Our skin is porous, scars, freckles, and both inevitably wrinkle and age with time. To portray this idea, I made an installation of over a thousand portraits, transforming everyone I know, random people on the street, as well as pop stars and politician into potatoes. I chose the potato to portray human faces because of the many striking parallels. Not only is their skin porous like ours, but their skin texture and color is very similar, and like us, they come in different sizes, shapes and forms.” – Ginou

Ginou Choueiri is a Lebanese artist who has quite unique vision of art. She paints human portraits on potatoes and she does not care that her work soon sprouts shoots and rot. She makes portraits of everyone, from family and friends to people she meets on the streets, as well as famous people and politicians.

Her work has gone on exhibitions in Spain, Italy and Lebanon and has evidently given critics ample food for thought – she once used 400kg (880lb) for a single exhibition.

Some find them fun and humorous, others find them disturbing. What about you?

”WasteLandscape” a 500 square meters artificial undulating landscape covered by an armor of 65 000 unsold or collected CDs, which have been sorted and hand-sewn.

Definitely it is something more amazing than a box of old CDs, sitting in hall closets, unused and covered in dust!

Where do all of these CDs go after the piece is done?
